Since its inception back in the early 1900’s, video technology has been advancing at a pace faster than you can say television. From large projections of stop-motion pictures without sound or colour to flat-screen televisions affixed to the walls in our homes, the history of video technology takes us on a fascinating journey of technological development. By the 1930’s, Hollywood had become the hub of video production and over 65% of the United States population was attending weekly movie showings. These movie projections were a big event and people dressed lavishly to attend the showings, which were constantly the talk of the town. In the mid-1950’s, small black and white television sets had become popular household items. Technology continued advancing and flat screens hit the market by the late 1990s. LCD displays and mountable TV displays had taken over, quickly followed by laptops, tablets and smartphones. Today, smart devices have become an integral part of our lives and they’re here to stay. What does this mean for the years to come? Flat screen-panels have a bright future in creating video walls with synchronized screens, much like a movie theater screen but also customizable to allow the screening of multiple sources at once.
